Summary:
In case you were wondering, GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program. GIMP is another Photoshop kind of program but with a big zero on the price tag. Although Gimp is free, the targeted users are also professionals, not only amateurs.
GIMP is a pretty powerful
image editor. It has the essential graphic editing features like resizing, editing, cropping, converting graphic files from one format to another, filters, layers, color change, and the list can go on. Moreover have the most important
digital retouching tools one can want. For the photo enhancement part it is worth to mention some key features as barrel distortion, perspective transform, and also GIMP offers the possibility to get rid of unnecessary objects in your picture.
In addition, the file formats supported should be mentioned JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, and the not so common file formats as multi-resolution and multi-color-depth Windows icon files. Likewise, for even rarer file formats, GIMP allows installation of plugins. The list of these useful plugins can be found on the developer's website. Also, the user can pick from the following extensions ZIP, GZ, BZ2, in order to save disk space by compressing the graphic file. Another detail worth to be mentioned is that it has three windows. So for some users that might look a little strange. And the last thing I feel eager to mention is the GIMP mascot name. They called it Wilber.
